Along with its predecessor, the seductive ‘Kiss?’, Childcare‘s latest single was one that made ears prick at HIDDEN HERD‘s recent gig with the London four-piece’s label Lost In The Manor.

Thankfully, the recorded version of ‘Dust’ doesn’t disappoint and is easily tantamount to how it sounded that night in London haunt The Finsbury, losing none of its vigour, vividness or instantaneous appeal.

From the moreish guitar line that adorns its opening bars, ‘Dust’ wraps around the brain like a boa constrictor, brimming with angular riffs that echo Franz Ferdinand‘s eponymous first full-length and a searing energy that recalls Foals‘ feverish third.

The song that completes the quartet’s debut EP ‘Made Simple’ even throws a curveball with an acapella breakdown, an off-kilter interlude that aligns them more closely with art-pop oddballs Everything Everything. It’s a winning combination of accessible and experimental – one that marks Childcare as one of the most exciting acts in the country right now.
