Ahead of their appearance at our very first Hidden Herd Festival next week, we caught up with psychedelic beachside rockers Drip Gloss before they head out on tour with fellow Brightonians The Magic Gang.
What have you been up to so far this year?
“This year’s been mostly getting everything ready for the first release. We went to the studio and took our time in post production, to make sure the single gets the best impressions. Also did some gigs supporting FUR and Boy Pablo and others.”
How did ‘Drip Gloss’ initially start out?
“We were gigging for just under a year as another project, which was surf garage. After that, we took a whole summer off to rebrand cos we wanted to go in a different direction with our music. After a few months, we had our first show and have been progressing our sound since.”
What inspired your name?
“Sadly nothing too exciting. We wanted a very saturated word. You know the kinds you instantly have a taste on your tongue of. Started playing around with different words and orders and this one stuck.”
Who would you cite as the biggest influences on your sound right now?
“To be honest, we all have quite different influences. I think in an ideal world it would be something like Kali Uchis, The Strokes, Blood Orange and some Posty or Mavi Phoenix. Probs MØ too.”
Are there any other artists you’ve played with that you’d recommend?
“Yeah definitely, most have been sick af. FUR are smashing it at the moment, and def MOONOVERSUN who we hang with all the time.”
What does the future hold for you?
“We’re playing the ‘So Young’ fest in London 12/09, which will be our first London show. Releasing our single just before that if everything clears. Then music vid coming out and heading on tour with The Magic Gang late September. We wanna keep the singles rolling after that so keeping buzzy.”
Drip Gloss play at Hidden Herd festival on September 1st at The Green Door Store in Brighton. Tickets available here via Dice.
