Youngr is the project name of musician Dario Darnell, the same Dario Darnell who formed electronic pop duo Picture Book with brother Lorne a few years back. From London (by way of New York and Manchester), the rising talent’s spectacular one-take live video bootleg remixes have already amassed millions of views and his self-released edgy pop-infused debut single ‘Out Of My System’ now stands at over 21 million plays on streaming juggernaut Spotify. On the back of sold out tours across Europe and a stellar performance at this year’s Great Escape, we sat down with Youngr for a brief chat while he gears up for his biggest summer yet.

Your bootleg remixes are incredible. How do you pick which songs to remix?

“It always comes from songs I love! Whether it’s a song I grew up listening to or something I hear on the radio! Recently I got hooked on the version of ‘Shape Of You’ when Stormzy did his thing to it. It was only a matter of time before I bootleg’ed it!”

You’re playing Secret Solstice 2017 in Iceland alongside some amazing acts – is there anyone you’re looking forward to seeing?

FOO FIGHTERS! I’ve always loved them and can’t wait to see them rock out live.”

What’s the best gig that you’ve ever played as Youngr?

“Holi Festival Of Colours in Mexico City. It was magical.”

Finally, what can we expect from the rest of 2017 and beyond?

“Lots more music! Lots of festivals. Lots of good times and smiles.”
