Vestiges‘ first offering could soundtrack the opening credits of a sprawling big-screen epic. With its spaghetti western vibe, we imagine their demo ‘Woman’ to seep from the speakers as a lone bounty hunter navigates a desolate dust bowl on horseback, its whistling guitar line hanging in the air over the vast, dark heartland beyond.

Like The Last Shadow Puppets‘ cinematic debut album, Scott Walker looms large over its timeless melodies and execution, which makes for a bold first statement given their newcomer status. The freshly-formed London band – a group of uni friends including promising bedroom pop makers Alfie Firmin (aka Trowler) and Isaac Shalam – are more than just pastiche, however, with the song slinking to an organ-led dystopic highpoint that vaguely recalls retro-futurists Wampire.
