The first 20 seconds of ‘Run’ by Bloodflower is like a shot of start-of-the-week motivation; strutting bass and a contagious synth hook combine to create a sugar rush of 80s electronic revivalism, which echoes The Human League at their most darn infectious. It continues in the same vein too, with a handclap-packed verse and a sleek chorus which threatens to “Woah Woah Wo Ooo” like the unshakeable bridge from Mystery Jets‘ earwormer ‘Young Love’.

Welsh duo Jonnie Owen and Tom Manning are certainly all about pop riffs and Made In Chelsea-ready euphoria elsewhere too, recalling turn-of-the-decade Harrow nearly-men Rogues. During their more subdued moments, however, they echo Wild Beasts – such as on the cooing, glacial slow-build ‘Cannibals’, which is up for free download the day after Guy Fawkes Night.
