A masterful blend of genres are at play here. A base of R’n’B, delicately littered with some influence from noticeable artists such as Sampha and Kwabs. Like Kwabs, they have mastered the art of building intensity in a song without the need for sped tempos and thumping percussion.
As if that wasn’t enough, the xx-esque juxtaposition of high and low vocal pitches seems almost too perfect an addition to the mix – imagine the xx but with a bit more ‘oomph’. The Gothenburg trio (by way of Pastiano and Milan) all moved to Sweden so that they could focus on their music, and that they did. This is certainly an impressive start for Emmecosta.
Trust us, you should stay tuned for the horns at the end.
