Like its London sunrise video – which sees the capital-based foursome’s backdrop go from deep dark to pinky blue dawn – Fossa‘s latest offering ‘Static’ is achingly simple and beautifully impactful.

The track is genuinely affecting; there are shades of Massive Attack‘s ‘Unfinished Sympathy’ in its brooding synths and feel, while Louis Shadwick’s vocal delivery is poignant throughout – sitting somewhere between Daniel Rossen (Grizzly Bear) and Peter Silberman (The Antlers).

Wild Beasts, with whom they’ve been consistently compared, are referenced once more – but rather than the curious sounds of ‘Limbo, Panto’ and ‘Two Dancers’ (which they nodded to on April’s ‘Sea Of Skies’ EP) they instead echo Kendal’s finest circa ‘Smother’, with its ethereal downbeat balladry.
