From South London, born and raised, Jacob Read has long been perfecting his sprawling and desolate sound – one seemingly dreamt up in the dead of night with just dim-shining bulbs and the buzz of the fridge for company. Under his moniker Jerkcurb, the fruits of his nocturnal recording stints have been quietly hypnotic so far and new number ‘Night on Earth’ is no exception.

On it, the enigmatic newcomer channels the spirit of former collaborator Archy Marshall and his work as King Krule, as well as Louis Jones’s evocative throwback project Spectrals. Like both of those before him, Read continues to show a penchant for off-kilter balladry and washy chords, and the result is the sort of thing you could imagine soundtracking a mirrorball-lit slow dance at the close of a cult movie.
