Today’s new music spotlight is on Aadae.
Line-up: Andenike Johnson (vocals)
About: Born in Nigeria but raised in Peckham, Aadae‘s songwriting speaks of family parties spent listening to high life and Afrobeat, long nights in South London dancing to UK garage, and an innate love of the impact pop songwriting can have. Aadae has had a busy 12 months. Following support from 1Xtra, 6Music, The Observer, The Fader, The Line Of Best Fit, The Independent, Wonderland, Notion and many more, her summer was spent on the road with performances at Green Man, Latitude, All Points East and a host of other slots; a frenetic schedule which included being invited to Australia to take part in a huge tribute to Nelson Mandela.
What Hidden Herd say: African-born but South London-raised, Aadae’s afrobeat-laced pop sound is a reflection of both her roots; a distinctive blend for the masses that’s jam-full of soulful refrains, carnival rhythms and hip-shaking hooks.
