Today, our new music spotlight is on Art School Girlfriend.
Location: Margate, United Kingdom
Line-up: Polly Mackey (vocals/guitar)
About: Arriving last year with a brand new version of hauntingly good twilight-pop, Art School Girlfriend captured the imagination of many with her brilliantly ethereal debut EP. Featuring lead single ‘Bending Back’ and the title track ‘Measures’, the self-produced EP explored themes of lust, disillusionment and queer identity. Currently based in Margate, the new single ‘Moon’ was written whilst Polly was still living in South London, with finishing touches added earlier this year in Paul Epworth’s famous The Church Studios. The darkness of this track is a stark contrast to the slow push and pull of the ‘Measures’ EP and hints to a more electronic direction for Art School Girlfriend.
What Hidden Herd say: Art School Girlfriend’s dead-of-night electro-pop is made up of noirish beats and dreamy lilts that enrapture at every turn. If you enter Polly Mackey’s ethereal world, you’ll never want to leave.
