Today’s new music spotlight is on BADLAWS.
Line-up: Lucy Hinton (vocals), Daniel Bright (guitar/vocals), Travis Powers (bass/vocals), Josh Caplin (drums)
About: BADLAWS. are a four-piece dark pop outfit based in Brighton. The female-fronted quartet, comprised of Lucy Hinton (vocals), Daniel Bright (guitar), Travis Powers (bass) and Josh Caplin (drums) look to derive sounds from modern Pop music accompanied by heavier groove-laden riffs. The band’s latest single, ‘I’m Not Myself’, is a song about dealing with inner demons whilst trying to please other people. The track reflects on how having bad mental health in relationships can create distance and confusion. The song is the protagonist’s cry for help whilst dealing with conflicting emotions of anger and despair. Although the song is about such intense emotions, the contrasting drop-down section is to show how there is always hope and that bad times don’t last forever.
What Hidden Herd say: Touting heavy riffs and emotive hooks, the time is now for BADLAWS. who sound like they’re hell-bent on headlining vast, hangar-like rooms. Their newest dark alt-rock tune is both brooding and exuberant, echoing the likes of BLOXX and VALERAS. Say hello to ‘I’m Not Myself’ below.
