Today, our new music spotlight is on bdrmm.
Location: Hull, United Kingdom
Line-up: Ryan Smith (vocals/guitar) Jordan Smith (bass), Joe Vickers (guitar), Daniel Hull (vocals/synth) and Aaron Moreton (drums).
About: Creating a perfect cocktail of synth-soaked Beach House, jangly slackers DIIV and otherworldly shoegazers Slowdive, bdrmm have gone from strength to strength on each release, coming a long way since Smith first recorded early release ‘Crike’ on his phone. Fast forward a year or so and now, and as a fully formed five-piece bdrmm have notched up a few enviable achievements. National radio play has come from BBC Radio 1 and Amazing Radio, and shows up and down the country with the likes of Trudy & The Romance, Her’s, FEHM and Horsey, including a capacity show during Tramlines Festival, have established the quintet as exciting indie up-and-comers. Ditching the phone recordings and exploring a more meaningful sound, bdrmm have enlisted the help of producer, and Forever Cult bassist, Alex Greaves (Trash, PLAZA, Seeing Hands) to bring their self-styled ‘gross dreamy noise’ to life on their debut single. Now, they’re following it up with the way i want, a sprawling anti-epic full of hazy objections to unwanted communication.
What Hidden Herd say: Dreamy noiseniks bdrmm make music to get lost in, shot through a hazy 90s lens. Just listen to their hella impressive first forays and submerge in the shadowy slacker atmos, which recalls fellow newcomers PLAZA with its penchant for all-consuming “wall of sound”.
