Today’s new music spotlight is on Beach Riot.

Location: Brighton

Line-up: Rory O’Connor (guitars/vocals), Cami Menditeguy (guitar/vocals), Jim Faulkner (bass/vocals) and Jonny Ross (drums)

About: Brighton’s Beach Riot are now streaming the fuzz-laden lead track from their debut EP, recorded by Blood Red Shoes’ Steven Ansell and out now via Vallance Records.

‘Medicate For Success’ is arguably the band’s heaviest single to date, packing sludgy riffs and a driving bass line alongside the signature double-tracked melodic vocals of Rory O’Connor and Cami Menditeguy. It’s a frustrated battle cry at the plethora of fake news accusations and public PR disasters of American President Donald Trump, and was written with a condition known as synesthesia.

The band, whose live following has been growing fast over the last 6 months, formed when co-frontwoman Cami Menditeguy won a bunch of cash gambling on horse racing and spent it on a plane ticket to London where she had always dreamed of fronting a band.

What Hidden Herd say: Beach Riot‘s rip-roaring fuzz-pop is drenched in the spirit of 1990s Seattle, with its exhilarating clash of evocative duel vocals and crunchy mega riffs.
