Today’s new music spotlight is on Bekah Bossard.
Line-up: Bekah Bossard (vocals/guitar)
About: ‘San Diego’ is the debut single from Bekah Bossard, hailing from the South West of England Bekah was born in California and currently finds herself at Goldsmiths in London.
‘San Diego’, a sad-indie dream-pop muse, evokes the emotion-drenched synth of The Japanese House and autobiographical attitude of Daughter/Ex:Re. Bekah wrote the track about embracing the feeling of being completely at home with someone whilst also learning to be at peace with losing it. The track was produced by Tim Barton and Abi Simmons with Bella Barton on backing vocals.
Bekah began writing songs and playing guitar at the age of 13 when her Dad showed her three chords, but words have always been of paramount importance as she recollects writing poetry since she could string a sentence together.
So, ‘San Diego’ marks Bekah’s first proper release of music after years of wanting to “get it right”. Bekah explains further, “it feels terrifying to be so vulnerable but pushing through the fear to create a connection with people through my music makes it all worth it.”
What Hidden Herd say: London-based singer-songwriter Bekah Bossard makes a spellbinding sound that is sparse, ambient and delicately nuanced. Get acquainted via cathartic debut single ‘San Diego’, a haunting alt-folk song that ebbs and flows like a lonely tide at dusk.
