Today, our new music spotlight is on CIEL

Location: Brighton

Line-up: Michelle Hindriks (vocals/guitar), Jorge Bela Jimenez (guitar), Kieran Mansfield (bass/bass synth) and Hannah Feenstra (Drums)

About: CIEL is the moniker of Dutch dreamgaze artist Michelle Hindriks. From a very young age Hindriks has had the gut-feeling that England should be the place where she would need to continue her life-journey. In the end of last year Michelle finally gave in to this feeling and changed the small town in The Netherlands where she used to live for the vibrant musical scene in Brighton.

The Debut EP ‘Anxiety’, that was released in 2017, takes you on a shoegazey trip dominated by the guitar lines of her Jaguar and dreamscape vocals, with dark tribal beats cascading the backing rhythm. Soon after the release of the EP CIEL played festivals such as Eurosonic, Le Guess Who and SPOT festival in Denmark.

Now CIEL is ready to take the stage in the UK with her brand new band consisting of Jorge Bela Jimenez on guitar, Kieran Mansfield on bass and Hannah Feenstra on drums.

What Hidden Herd say: CIEL’s noir-rock aura juxtaposes perfectly with Michelle Hindriks tender heartsong – the result is a delectable mix of dusty, moody americana complete with a take-it-or-leave-it neu-punk sheen.
