Today’s new music spotlight is on Febueder.
Location: Ascot, England
Line-up: Kieran Godfrey (vocals/multi-instrumentalist), Samuel Keysell (percussion/bass/samples)
About: Febueder are an avant-indie duo from Ascot, England, composed of lead vocalist/multi-instrumentalist Kieran Godfrey and percussionist Samuel Keysell. Their name (pronounced Fe-byou-der) is more than a made-up appellation, it’s the palette from which they present their emotionally deft songwriting and progressive approach to rhythm and melody. The band’s first four EPs feature mixing by Marta Salogni (Bjork, Frank Ocean, The XX) and have received praise from publications including NME, Complex, The Line of Best Fit, GoldFlakePaint, Indie Shuffle, CLASH, and DIY.
2018 was a strong year for Febueder – they played SXSW, toured extensively through UK/Europe, dropped their EP ‘All a Hoax’, and were synced in Red Bull’s end of year film (hear ‘Paramount Tether’ from 3:12 to 4:13). Their latest single ‘Animation’ and sold-out London performance confirms they’re set for an even bigger 2019.
What Hidden Herd say: Febueder’s avant indie-pop is a mystical mix of DIY samples, eclectic beats and cooed vocals. Ready to be hypnotised? Latest single ‘Animation’ is an atmospheric slowburner that sounds like Yannis Philippakis fronting alt-J.
