Today’s new music spotlight is on FLOAT.
Line-up: Andrew Henderson (Bass), Andrew Saunders (guitar/vocals), Bradley Hillier-Smith (drums), Edmund C. Short (vocals/keys) and Joe Richardson (guitar/vocals)
About: Hailing from all corners of England, London based post-punk outfit FLOAT came together a year ago and have already seen their boisterous brand of rock music earn them a glowing reputation in their scene. Starting out with static noise and a propulsive bass riff, new single ‘WATCH’ instantly lunges you head first into the raucous world of FLOAT with their motorik, driving rhythms, spiky guitars and darkly washed-out vocals. With influences ranging from Echo & The Bunnymen and Television to Bauhaus and The Doors, FLOAT are ensuring the lineage of exciting guitar bands remains unbroken.
What Hidden Herd say: With an evocative and broodingly atmospheric sound, London post-punks FLOAT sound like they were born in a dingy cave like The Shacklewell Arms circa 2010. Mechanical beats, immersive instrumentation and choppy guitars make up recent sonic triumph ‘WATCH’; a release that’s pricking ears and winning hearts in the capital.
