Today’s new music spotlight is on FUR.

Location: Brighton

Line-up: Will Murray (vocals/rhythm guitar), Will ‘Tav’ Tavener (bass), Flynn Whelan (drums) and Harry Saunders (lead guitar)

About: Despite being relatively early in their life as a band, FUR are already capable of crafting intelligent songs; penning a particularly nostalgic strain of guitar music, but making it sound fresh again. Taking the age-old love song trope and reinvigorating it, theirs are tracks that feel familiar and classic but with a vibrancy that’s entirely new. Last Autumn’s ‘If You Know That I’m Lonely’ is testament to that. Armed with a camera and a £100 budget, the group headed to a woodland to shoot the video for the aforementioned single themselves. Subsequently, and around four and a half million YouTube hits later, the band have landed support slots with the likes of The Brian Jonestown Massacre, Matt Maltese and more.
What Hidden Herd say: Beside the likes of Honey Moon and Weird Milk, FUR are the standout modern era-hoppers putting their very own 21st-century spin on 60s swoon-pop. Stunning new single ‘Him and Her’ has been a mainstay in their live set for some time, and is yet another masterclass in classic songwriting that sounds like it was built to induce gooeyness and euphoria on prom night.
