Today’s new music spotlight is on Hey Charlie.
Line-up: Lizz Steichen (vocals/guitar), Sophie Scott (vocals/bass) and Lauren O’Donnell Anderson (vocals/drums)
About: Hey Charlie are Lauren, Lizz and Sophie, the London based pop-rock band you won’t forget. Their iconic matching style combined with crunchy guitar riffs, catchy hooks and sugar pop melodies challenges what it means to be a rock band in 2019. Managing, booking and styling themselves, Hey Charlie play by their own rules.
After meeting at university and playing their first shows in 2017, the band quickly gained support from Phil Taggart and Daniel P Carter at Radio 1, as well as Kerrang! and Radio X, and their debut single ‘Hey’ went viral on Spotify in the UK. Having played alongside names such as Green Day, All Time Low, Foster the People and Liam Gallagher, the band fast gained a reputation as an unpredictable and cyclonic live force.
Now, after returning from a self-funded trip to LA to work with the likes of Colin Brittain and Zakk Cervini, Hey Charlie are ready to reveal the fruits of their labour – stream ‘Bad Things’ below.
What Hidden Herd say: Hey Charlie have been uniting razor-sharp riffs with earworm choruses since their inception, but grunge-pop anthems don’t come much bigger than the trio’s latest single ‘Bad Things’ – an arena-ready tune that soars thanks to its evocative American-style pop rock refrain.
For fans of: All Time Low, Weezer, Black Honey
Next shows: As part of their ‘Bad Things’ UK tour, Hey Charlie will play Hidden Herd Presents: SPTLGHT at Green Door Store on Saturday 2nd March in Brighton alongside Dead Naked Hippies, Sad Boys Club and Currls. Tickets are available via DICE.
