Today’s new music spotlight is on ISLA.
Location: Brighton, UK
Line-up: Ed Brown (lead vocals/guitar), Andy Adams (backing vocals/bass), Alex Woodward (drums)
About: ISLA are an alternative rock band formed in the early months of 2018, after meeting at University in the vibrant city of Brighton. The band consists of Ed Brown (lead vocals/guitar), Andy Adams (backing vocals/bass) and Alex Woodward (drums) who individually have a wide range of influences, but collectively take inspiration from the likes of Queens of the Stone Age, Foals and Nothing But Thieves. ISLA blend elements of conventional rock and guitar riffs to create atmospheric and emotional ambience.
In Autumn 2018, the band released their debut EP ‘Boundaries’, which showcased the beginning of intertwining influences. The four-track EP has achieved over 5,000 streams collectively and continues to grow. Following the release, ISLA sold-out their debut EP release show at the much loved Sticky Mike’s Frog Bar in Brighton. ‘Boundaries’ has enabled ISLA to venture from Brighton and perform across Southern England, supporting acts such as Saltwater Sun and Wyldest.
Following a rebrand, the band are focused on writing heavier material ready for big projects in 2019. ISLA have been working vigorously on recording and are ready to kick start their new chapter with their newest single titled ‘The Verve’ which was released on Friday 5th April.
What Hidden Herd say: Rebranded alt-rockers ISLA are Brighton’s newest purveyors of stadium-ready stonkers and their formidable new rock sound is one underpinned by massive guitars, thumping drums and rumbling energy. Crack on emphatic mission statement ‘The Verve’ and say hello to an anthem worthy of ginormous rooms.
