Today, our new music spotlight is on Kate Lomas.

Location: Bath

Line-up: Kate Lomas (Artist/writer/producer) Guy Britton (Producer)

About:

This is singer-songwriter-producer Kate Lomas from Bath, UK. Dreaming about the wild side of
life; she wants us to party to her own brand of homemade sad-dancing pop mu- sic.

Her latest single ’Sweet Strange Days’ is a trippy pop journey drifting us away from the madness of the day-to-day life. The song’s minimalistic production was crafted by Kate herself and longterm collaborator Guy Britton and features Lomas’ distinctive British vocal daydreaming over a bed of warm piano sounds and repeating lo- drum breaks.

Of the single, Kate says: “The song is about having a day off from the madness and not taking anything too seriously. I would like people to feel like they are floating in a massive bubble over the sea eating candy floss.” Not only a song- writer, Lomas is passionate about production and crafting her own sounds, “production is really fun and it’s easy to get carried away but with this song I wanted to create some- thing which felt really spacious and genuine and just let it be all about the vocal. Most of my productions have like 100 tracks or more but this is literally 24 tracks. I didn’t want to bring any drama into the production, I just wanted something which is kinda trip hoppy and pop and I think it’s just really nice”.

Sweet Strange Days‘ is the first of three singles to be released by Kate Lomas in 2018.

What Hidden Herd say: What begins as a nostalgic taste of British music in the golden 90’s is immediately complemented with Lomas‘ sincere, honest lyricism; a melancholy style that has us reminiscent of M.I.A, albeit with an English charm. For those that are looking for the next notable sound in Britain’s alt-pop scene, Lomas enters the new wave with a distinguished and assured first release in 2018.
