Today, our new music spotlight is on KOALAS.
Line-up: Samuel Jones (songwriting/production/vocals), Rachel Waters (songwriting/production/vocals)
About: With Manchester’s lurching music scene currently knee deep in DIY guitar bands, KOALAS are part of a new vanguard of artists to come out of the Low Four studio and label based at the Old Granada Studios in the city centre. Working with producer Brendan Williams (Dutch Uncles, GoGo Penguin, Makemake) the synth-pop duo take influence from Caribou and Boards of Canada to The Pointer Sisters and Ambitious Lovers.
What Hidden Herd say: KOALAS‘ technicolour sound is infectious, to say the least – a glowing concoction of shimmering synths, stuttering beats and refrains that’ll take up residence inside your skull for days. Hit play and bask in the afterglow of latest foray ‘Lover’, which is among the most contagious tracks we’ve had the pleasure of hearing this year.
For fans of: Everything Everything, Caribou, Little Dragon
Friday 23 April – Manchester @ Low Four (Old Granada Studios) supporting Mt. Wolf.
Latest track: ‘Lover’
