Today, our new music spotlight is on LIFE

Location: Hull, United Kingdom

Line-up: Mez (Vocals), Lydia (Bass), Mick (Guitar), Stew (Drums)

About: Hull-based post-punk polemics LIFE ‘s debut album, Popular Music, told a vivid story of their community. Critiquing the world’s many dents and fractures, it brutally and truthfully analysed the Trump administration, Brexit and 2-for-1 supermarket deals. The pent-up anguish displayed within this album and their DIY beginnings reflecting the geographical isolation of Hull – a city with one way in and one way out.

Follow-up album ‘A Picture of Good Health’ (out 20th September via Afghan Moon / PIAS) sees LIFE take their lyrics inwards, detailing their own emotions and experiences, making way for an album that is more robust and musically broader. Displaying the band’s growing maturity, the album discusses themes such as single parenthood, unattainable beauty and the emptiness of the internet age.

LIFE have already received praise from the likes of The Guardian, DIY and BBC Radio 6, and look to conquer the UK and Europe on a 35-date tour starting late September.

What Hidden Herd say: ‘Bum Hour’ starts with a chugging intensity, showering Hull’s punk scene with the best flavours of British legends-past whilst adding a notorious attitude of their own.
