Today’s new music spotlight is on Little Grim.
Location: South East London
Line-up: Joe Murphy (vocals/guitar), Jeremy Barclay (lead guitar), Chris Alger (bass) and Roger Muntzer (drums)
About: South London alt-pop band Little Grim mingle chilling, harrowing lyrics and soaring vocals with slick hip-hop beats. The result is music you can dance and cry to, preferably at the same time.
Inspired by artists such as alt-J, Yonaka and Everything Everything, their music is a delicate balance between intricate guitar parts and electronic elements.
Little Grim came together after singer Joe Murphy and guitarist Jeremy Barclay met in a secondary school jazz band, discovering a shared love for making off-kilter beats and melodies. They’ve shared stages with the likes of Rat Boy, Husky Loops and Giant Rooks, bringing with it an exhilarating live show.
Following a string of releases since October 2018, the band have picked up notable plays from BBC Introducing, BBC 6 Music with Tom Robinson, and Amazing Radio. They have also featured live on BBC Introducing The South.
Little Grim‘s live shows have been drawing large crowds, with sold-out gigs at Bermondsey Social Club, The Paper Dress Vintage and their packed-out performance at The Great Escape Festival 2019, Y Not? Festival and Fresh on the Net Live.
What Hidden Herd say: Like alt-J and Glass Animals before them, Little Grim‘s intricate arrangements, off-kilter beats and wonky aesthetic make for an eclectic listening experience. Enter their unique world via brand new single ‘All on Black’ – their rawest soundscape yet.
