Today, our new music spotlight is on Lydia.
Line-up: Leighton Antelman (vocals / guitar), Matt Keller (keyboard / guitar / programming) and Shawn Strader (bass)
About: Lydia frontman and founder Leighton Antelman doesn’t take his band for granted… anymore.
When the Arizona-based indie-rock project initially formed in 2003, a high school-aged Antelman was mostly just messing around and having fun writing songs with his friends. “I was winging it,” he describes.
When high school ended, Antelman enrolled at Arizona State but, only a year in, realized higher education wasn’t right for him. So, as an experiment (and, he notes, against every older adult’s recommendation), he hit the road with Lydia. It’s now 14 years later and he’s been releasing albums and touring ever since. He and his bandmates now reside and collaborate on their music in the suburbs of Phoenix.
Lydia‘s forthcoming record, ‘Liquor’, is set to arrive on July 13 via Weekday Records.
What Hidden Herd say: Lydia‘s latest release is a brooding spectacle with sincere, tender lows and explosive, rapturous highs. In their trademark style, we’re hanging on their every word.
Next shows: Currently touring the US with Moose Blood.
Latest track: ‘Goodside‘
