Today, our new music spotlight is on Phalcons.
Location: Snowdonia, North Wales
Line-up: Ben Ellis (vocals/guitar), Tom Williams(vocals/bass), Naomi Saunders(vocals/keys) and Alex Morrison (vocals/drums)
About: Born from the ashes of various (since defunct) bands, Phalcons are 4 friends from North Wales who share a passion for Psychedelic music. Forming in 2016 as a trio (Ben, Tom, Alex), they wrote songs that were inspired by the harmony-driven, twangy guitar sound of the 60s and 70s.
Gaining momentum, spent the next year playing a few steady gigs, growing a fanbase. Then, adding new member Naomi to the outfit in 2017, they continued to play shows around the country, eventually releasing their debut single; Idle Ways in November 2017. Now a few months later, they come bearing another single: ‘Swim Away‘, which will be released on the 27th of April, with a showcase gig the following night.
With upcoming releases, gigs across the country, and a psychedelic pop sound that you can’t get out of your head, Phalcons are a band to look out for in 2018.
What Hidden Herd say: ‘Swim Away‘ aptly arrives at the turn of the season – a hazy track filled with melancholy delight and sunny intonations. The Welsh quartet capture the warming essence of California’s surfer rock perfectly, albeit with a British twist.
April 28 – Libertino Showcase, Cardigan Pizza Tipi.
May 12 – Focus Wales, Wrexham Central Station.
