Today’s new music spotlight is on Roost.

Location: Brighton

Line-up: Max Wright (guitar/production), James Hazell (synth)

About: Roost is the mysterious new project from Brighton’s Max Wright. After his most recent band parted ways, the multi-instrumentalist unveiled Roost as a solo project with darkly eclectic first cut ‘Waste’ – which premiered on Hidden Herd back in September.

Since then, Roost have evolved into a duo as Max describes in his own words: “Max Wright, founder of Hate/Pain Enterprises, took a trip to Zimbabwe, Matusadona National Park in search of the Big Five for inspiration, but on his travels he found ranger James Hazell. They returned home and together they created Roost 2.0″

What Hidden Herd say: Roost’s noisy goth-tinged synth-pop recalls the gloomy sonics of 1980s darkwave. Ready to get acquainted? His standout second single ‘Follow The Light’ is four and a half minutes of melodic iciness in the vein of Wesley Eisold’s Cold Cave – hit play on the premiere below.
