Today’s new music spotlight is on Rosie Alena.
Location: South London
Line-up: Rosie Alena (vocals), Geordie Greep (guitar), Matt Kwasniewski-Kelvin (guitar), Morgan Simpson (drums) and Finn Zeferino- Birchall (bass). The live band consists of an ever-changing line up of friends and fellow BRIT School alumni.
About: Rising from the same pocket of promising BRIT School alumni that includes black midi and Olivia Dean, London-based songwriter Rosie Alena‘s stunning songwriting style straddles the line between psychedelia, folk and pop. With an incredible vocal range and goosebump-inducing delivery style, Rosie and her consistently excellent live band have been dazzling audiences across the capital with support slots for the likes of Audiobooks and Grimm Grimm as well as dipping their toes into the festival circuit with a performance at not-for-profit Dials Festival back in October.
What Hidden Herd say: Despite her newcomer status, Rosie Alena‘s atmospheric alt-folk sounds like the nuanced craft of an artist albums deep. On excellent debut single ‘Mixed Messages’, the Londoner’s magnetic voice sends a shiver up the spine, while members of black midi help to create a hypnotic country-tinged backdrop. Tune in below.
