Today, our new music spotlight is on Sad Palace

Location: Gosport, Hampshire

Line-up: Louis Pinder (vocals/guitar/keys), Dan Kirk (guitar/keys), Matthew Cooke (drums), Owen Ballantyne (bass guitar)

About: Always aiming for the best of both worlds, Gosport based four piece, Sad Palace, combine eccentric pop grooves, imposing riffs and whatever else they can get their hands on to produce complex, psych-laced pop songs.

Sad Palace release their debut EP ‘Longbaby’ in May 2019, following a string of singles released by Kissability and Kitsuné and backed by BBC Introducing and Amazing Radio. Taken from tracks written across a period of two years and recorded in four days at Press Play Studio, influencers of the five track EP include artists such as Peace, American Football, The War On Drugs, Ratatat and Late of the Pier.

What Hidden Herd say: Sad Palace’s continued growth has shown a refined maturity to their sound. Across previous releases such as ‘Honeycone’ and ‘Frostbeat’, their penchant for creating unique, atmospheric soundscapes from track to track came through in droves.

On the Longbaby EP, we see this taken a step further, with 5 tracks that tell their own individual stories whilst having an underlying element that connects them all. The result? An incredibly rich tapestry that flitters its way across funk, soul and psychedelia.
