Today’s new music spotlight is on Voodoo and the Crypts.
Line-up: Matt Mitchell (vocals/guitar), Jordan Woolnough (guitar), Rob Davies (bass/vocals) and Sam Webb (drums)
About: Voodoo and the Crypts integrate a blend of 60s psychedelia and 90s dance and hip hop; a kaleidoscope of inspiration from Primal Scream and The Rolling Stones to Fat Boy Slim and Groove Armada which gives the quartet’s sound a diversity not heard amongst many modern bands, shouldering a unique sonic identity and musical maturity which unties them from their influences. Their searing, hypnotic vocals over effortlessly groovy beats and addictive melodies have made their mark on the current indie spectrum where their sound has developed over the last three years, from infectious indie-pop to euphoric, prismatic dance-rock anthems, shrouded in an unapologetically psychedelic mist.
What Hidden Herd say: Brighton outfit Voodoo and the Crypts are master crafters of psych-tinged anthems to get your groove on to. Looking for a big tune to banish the start-of-the-week blues? Swoon-worthy new single ‘Vicious Underground’, with its Primal Scream-ish euphoria and hook-loaded refrain, is the finest thing they’ve concocted yet.
