Today’s new music spotlight is on Xoxo.
Line-up: Jordan Bain (drums/vocals), Vid Moeckli (vocals/guitar), Cameron Pope (guitar) and Jamie Thomas (bass)
About: Forming and developing in Brighton over the past two years, Xoxo have found their place crafting indie-pop bangers, blending head bopping grooves with funky riffs, electronic production and wry lyrics.
The combo of drummer Jordan Bain and bassist Jamie Thomas keep your feet busy, while frontman Vid Moeckli’s love of shameless pop hooks worms its way into the back of your head. Lead guitarist Cameron Pope is the newest addition to the lineup, having joined in April, but his ability to write a slick riff and rip a screaming solo has made him Xoxo’s very own guitar hero.
The band cite their influences as “a 50/50 mix of classic indie – Arctic Monkeys, Foals, The 1975 and any band with the word ‘Club’ in its name – and straight up pop, including Sigrid, Taylor Swift and The Chainsmokers…and a bit of Monty Python”.
What Hidden Herd say: South coast newcomers Xoxo make dazzlingly catchy guitar-pop in the vein of one of the city’s finest exports Fickle Friends. Sound like a bit of you? Hit play on debut single ‘Cold Blood’, blending fidgety licks, colourful hooks and effervescent energy to create four minutes of peppy joy.
