Today, our new music spotlight is on Youth Sector.
Line-up: Nick Tompkins (vocals/guitar), Josh Doyle (bass), Brad Moore (guitar) and Karl Tomlin (drums)
About: Brighton’s Youth Sector are an alternative rock four-piece offering up a unique blend of drawling vocal melodies sashaying above sharp, crooked guitars. Bringing in influences from Talking Heads, Devo and Queens Of The Stone Age, synth-like guitar textures and angry driving basslines are the order of the day. With a compelling live show, Youth Sector have “swagger to match bands ten times their size, the confidence the quartet exhibit points to exciting things” (DIY Magazine). Starting 2018 full of intent, the band’s first two singles received acclaim from major music blogs and radio stations alike, with premieres on DIY and Clash Magazine and multiple plays on Radio 1, BBC 6 Music, BBC Introducing and XS Manchester.
What Hidden Herd say: Youth Sector’s frenetic art-rock is a white-knuckle thrill ride, all super-sized hooks and rip-roaring momentum, and latest single ‘Strange’ is no exception – unleashing itself as a Franz-ish stomper brimful of bombastic energy.
