RAAYS may hail from the concrete wilderness, but their eyes are bent on the coast. Like glimmering psychsmiths Saltwater Sun, who we featured as our first ever #FoundSound last week, they too are purveyors of a hazy rock ‘n’ roll that’s brimful of hooks and begging to be blared out on a stony beach under the beating sun.
‘Shimmer”s duelling guitars do as the track’s title suggests, with fretwork that sounds like it’s bubbling in the shallow water airing alongside a jangly Real Estate-ish lead lick. The atmosphere those six-strings conjure is a great fit for frontman Tom Dimmock’s adolescent rasp and aural swagger; a combination that puts them in swoon-worthy territory. The next Swim Deep? This Reading trio could well be.
