‘AtalantA’ begins on a delicate line between meticulous craft and organised chaos. The disparate instrumentation behind Rina Mushonga‘s incredibly melodic voice gives the track a confident air of originality, offering her the same experimental grace as other female neu-pop artists such as Laura Mvula and tUnE-yArDs.
Her sound has a welcome tropical quality too, throwing a much-needed glow of heat over a willing public in the winter months. What starts as a lightly-layered track begins to grow in intensity and charge towards it’s end, which adds a euphoric and diverse climax to a piece of music that achieves so much. Standing for self-empowerment and independence, the Dutch-Zimbabwean singer has shown a finely-tuned creative outlook with this single; the first in a run of releases leading up to her second studio album that lands in autumn 2017.
