As the name of their debut tune suggests, World Radio‘s throwback noise is a blossoming infatuation for us here at Hidden Herd HQ.

Unlike Manchester’s most famous exports, the introverted duo channel the foppish pop of the late 70s and make a sound that could have easily slotted in between Spandau Ballet and The Style Council on the original Live Aid lineup.

Like The 1975‘s sophomore album, the group’s self-produced and self-released first single ‘New Romance’ is a pristine replica of glistening airwaves fodder from years gone by, with a Smooth FM synth intro paving the way for a gyrating bass groove, glossy guitar lick and voguish baritone croon that harks backs to ABC frontman Martin Fry. Initial forays are rarely this slick.
